Of all the guitarists to emerge from the early days of the British folk music revival, it was Bert Jansch who had the most sustained influence – influencing artists from Jimmy Page, Paul Simon, Donovan and Neil Young to Johnny Marr of the Smiths.
Known primarily for his acoustic guitar skills, the splendidly simple Rosemary Lane from 1971 reveals a deep and dark voice; the songs in The Ornament Tree from 1990 are filled with Celtic fiddles and flutes, conjuring the sound of the wind over the moors; and finally, the mesmerising and beautiful Black Swan from 2006, made with Beth Orton, Devendra Banhart, Brendan Behan and Paul Wassif.
