Bring your cherished film negative and slide collection to life by transforming them to digital files, simply, quickly, and at the touch of a single button with the Summit Photofix Scanner.

It takes just a few moments to connect the scanner to your computer using the USB cable supplied, load the free software and begin. Each negative or slide takes under a second to scan and download into a digital file (jpg) which you can print, copy to CD, or store on any digital storage and playback media. Please also note: a) a strip of negatives can be loaded to the scanner for you to decide which image to scan, i.e. avoiding the need to cut-out a chosen negative from the strip; b) Slides can remain in their mounts whilst scanning. Power is supplied by the USB 2.0 connection and at just £99.95 it offers excellent value for money*.

Technical Information: Uses a 5 mega pixel CMOS sensor with 3,600 dpi interpolation & 48-bit colour scan; automatic exposure control; colour balance; fixed focus; 3 white LED backlight; single pass scan.

I bought one of these to transfer 1000 slides dating from 1959 thru 1985. It is excellent at this function. Resolution can be set at either 1800 or 3600 dpi, and the resulting jpg or tif files are of excellent quality. There's very little degradation of the image from the scanning process, colours are as good as the original, and it works very well with its Photoimpression 6 software. The carriers take 3 slides or 6 negatives. The software offers the option of scanning negatives rather than slides, but I have been unable to invert the negatives having previously scanned slides. Nothing in the Help section assists you with this.

Please put pressure on the manufacturer to make it Mac-compatible - I've been following your ads for a year now in the hope that I could at last buy one of these gadgets. But still not...

It would be handy to know at what resolution this digitises film. Without this fact it is impossible to assess whether it is worth a light. Epson make scanners which operate at high definition mine is 2400 dpi. thus giving an 18meg file from a frame. The digitisation definition well-exceeds that of a medium speed colour-film.
