Voices of History consists of 40 tracks of previously unpublished historical recordings on 2CDs from the British Library sound archive.
From the late 19th century, hear Florence Nightingales support of the Light Brigade Relief Fund and Gladstones transatlantic message to Edison, inventor of the phonograph. Early 20th century recordings include Prime Ministers HH Asquith, David Lloyd George, Ramsay MacDonald, Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee.
Suffragette leader Christabel Pankhurst is captured in fighting form after her release from Holloway, while the first woman MP Nancy Astor and Labour MP Edith Summerskill both demand equal compensation for women.
Mahatma Gandhis spiritual address to the world and Aga Khan IIIs message to Islam were recorded within weeks of each other in 1931. There are speeches by Lenin after the October revolution, Leon Trotsky in exile, Roosevelts address to congress after Pearl Harbour, Hitler, Stalin, and Bertrand Russells call for nuclear disarmament.
