Set in turn-of-the-century rural Provence, la Gloire de mon Pere and its sequel le Chateau de ma Mere offer a glimpse from a time when life was simple and the possibilities endless.

The sequel, Chateau de Ma Mere, sees Marcel and his family embark on a journey of humorous adventure as they return to the hills of Provence. Beautifully acted, superbly photographed, with an impeccable sense of time and place, you will fall in love with the characters and their idyllic setting.

If you are learning French, struggling with the complexities of grammar, and losing all motivation - then these two films (and the novels by Marcel Pagnol) will undoubtedly encourage you - the stories, although in a uniquely French cultural context, deal with universal human feelings and aspirations. In a cynical world, these two masterpieces celebrate kindness, friendliness, and empathy with humour and insight. World class!
