Seminal, angry, funny, despairing, politicised Bleasdale followed up his play by following each of his now unemployed Liverpudlian tarmac layers as they coped with harsh economics of Thatchers Britain. Yet despite the grim outline, compassion and comedy spring forth with absolutely superb performances from Bernard Hill, Tom Georgeson and Michael Angelis.
Few can forget Yosser Hughes (Hill) catchphrase from the series "Gizza' job!" which summed up the times.
