Tales from Europe are beautiful, colourful, animated fairy tales originally filmed in East Germany and shown in episodes with great success by the BBC in the 1960s. This 2 disc DVD set features two films shown in the original German with subtitles and also the English narrated versions.
The Singing Ringing Tree tells the story of a Prince who wishes to win the hand of a beautiful but conceited Princess and is set the task of bringing her the mythical Singing Ringing Tree from an enchanted garden guarded by an evil dwarf.The dwarf lets him take the tree, but states that the prince must win the Princesses love by nightfall, or he will turn into a bear. The Prince returns with the tree, but the spoilt Princess scorns his love, thus transforming him into a bear. In this form, he kidnaps her and takes her to the enchanted garden, where, stripped of her power and beauty, she begins to learn the error of her ways.
The Tinder Box is based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale in which a soldier finds a magical tinderbox capable of granting his wishes.
