The Ficus Carica, best known as the common fig, is a deciduous tree or shrub forming a nice spreading head of attractive, large lobed leaves which are heart-shaped at the base. Pear shaped receptacles develop into a single fruit during June till August, green when young maturing to purple or dark-brown.

Fully hardy figs prefer a sunny south-facing position and are very much at home in a large pot on the patio or balcony.
